Information on the Indigenous Economic Partnership Summit ’14: Opportunity- Are You Ready?
Opportunity to build relationships that focus on developing long-term sustainable business partnerships and wealth generation with the regional indigenous community. We hope to identify solutions to align indigenous plans that meet the needs of the regional industry and learn from research and best practices. We also want to develop viable business and equity business opportunities for the indigenous community. It all starts with building networks that will result in human resource development, business ownership and supplier diversity.
-Kendal Netmaker, CEO of Neechie Gear
-Dallas Soonias, Professional Volleyball player with Team Canada
-Chief Robert Louis (Chief of Westbank First Nation, Kelowna B.C.)

Kendal Netmaker: is the founder and CEO of Neechie Gear and grew up on the Sweetgrass First Nation in Saskatchewan. He was single parented, came from a low-income family and had little opportunity to be involved in any extra-curricular activities as a youth. His friend, formally from South Africa, noticed he was very skilled at soccer and asked why he wasn’t playing. The answer was that there wasn’t money for registration fees and no means to travel to and from games. With out his friends help[, Kendal wouldn’t have landed a college scholarship and been able to create an award winning company. Neechie Gear is committed to give a portion of proceeds to help underprivileged kids play sports. Thank you for your mentorship and guidance Kendal. The students learnt, and continue to learn so much from you.

Dallas Randolh (Keeshig) Soonias is a phenomenon when it comes to volleyball. He was born in Saskatoon, SK. in 1984, however, he has lived in Red Deer, AB. Since he was 16 months old. He is registered in Cape Crocker reserve in Ontario. He played his college ball for Red Deer College and the U of A Golden Bears winning three national gold medals and a silver in 4 years. He has spent the last ten years playing on the Canadian National Mens volleyball team and is currently playing professionally in China. He has played professionally for teams throughout Europe and Asia. In 2004 became a member of the Canadian Senior Mens VOlleyball Team. Dallas always keeps in mind when he puts on his jersey, he’s not just representing Canada, but also the First Nations peoples. He is a featured Neechie Gear Role Model.

We are so honoured to have Mrs. Young recognized with the gift of smudging. Having her share this with our school is amazing and featuring her at the Summit was so special as well.
