HOMEWORK: You are to find one current event that is occurring in the world where human rights are being broken. Try and find a current event that your classmates haven’t thought of. Dig deep.

We completed an activity together to ensure you know how to cite poetry. Please share this with Miss Mann through Google Classroom. Yes it will count for marks.

PRACTICE: Use All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten to pick your the two lines that appeal you to you the most. Write a SHORT and BASIC paragraph about how and why they appealed to you.

Assignment: A media log is like a journal. It is a place for you to jot down your responses, reactions, thoughts and ideas about media. It is also a record of your experiences of everything mass media. These logs will be kept throughout the semester and used from time to time to jot down notes as they relate to the learning targets. The log should include: -a profile of oneself as a mass media consumer (yes YOU are a consumer) -a personal response to the issue of inclusion of diversity in the mass media -a personal response to the influence of mass media on oneself -an analysis of a mass media text or event -an analysis of a print, radio, and television advertisement You should also find that your media log is a useful place to include what you are thinking about in this course, your experiences with certain media, your ideas for media projects and some of your notes on interesting findings. You may also include notes, about what you have learned about different media, articles, photos, new items, advertising, reviews and commentaries. This media log MUST be a sole page on your WordPress/Blog/Website.

CRITICAL QUESTIONS:

How many minutes/hours do you spend consuming the various types of media?
Which medium is your favourite?
Why? What attracts you to your favourite medium?
How? Why? What medium is most important to the class?
Can the mass media be considered a reliable source of information?

What stories get more attention than others?
How many posts on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat do you make a day?
