Photography 20:
We are going to take a break from Media Studies for a day and get into some more Photoshop techniques to prepare you for your ad project that is approaching.
Learning Targets:
I can apply various filters when adjusting an image.
I can use Adobe Photoshop to retouch an image in a natural way.
I can demonstrate techniques such as retouching, skin correction, contrast and layering, as examples of manipulation in an image that is graphically designed.
I can provide personal and ethical justification for choosing manipulation procedures to enhance an image.

Please wrap up The Hunger Games this week if you haven’t already finished reading the book.
We will talk about Chapter 1 and 15 questions and discuss a few things.

Chapter 1
Now that we know Katniss; think of 2 examples/choices that she makes that prove she would never have left and ran away with Gale. Explain the choice and then explain how it proves Katniss never would have ran away with Gale.

Chapter 2
There must have been some mistake. This can’t be happening. Prim was one slip of paper in thousands! Her chances of being chosen so remote that I’d not even bothered to worry about her. Hadn’t I done everything? Taken the tesserae, refused to let her do the same? One slip. One slip in thousands. The odds has been entirely in her favour. But it hadn’t mattered.
What is IRONIC about the saying; “May the odds be ever in your favour?”

Chapter 5

Which is more barbarian-like District 12 or the Capitol?

Chapter 8
“I am not pretty. I am not beautiful. I am as radiant as the sun” (Collins 121).
Why is this sentence turning point for the way people see Katniss?
THINK… DEEPER!

Chapter 9
Why do you think that Caesar is always kind and helpful with the tributes during their interviews? Do you think he has an angle or is he being genuine?

Chapter 10/11/12
Katniss experiences a wide range of emotions on the following pages.
It is a rollercoaster ride for her emotionally!
We are going to explore that ride with Katniss!
Look up each section and come up with one word that vividly represents how Katniss is feeling at that point in the chapter. You will write this word in the table below. Also come up with a symbol and a colour to represent this emotion for Katniss and briefly explain why you chose each.

Chapter 13
THE GAMES
What is the purpose of the Hunger Games? Do you the games are effective? Explain your stance.

Chapter 14
The branch holding the trackerjacker’s is dropped on Peeta and his friends…
Who saves Katniss’s life in this chapter?
Who else save’s Katniss’s life in this chapter?

Chapter 15
After meeting Rue; Katniss decides to get offensive.
Why do you think she has chosen now to do it?

Then we will watch the rest of the movie today while you work on your Independent Novel Studies.
