English 20:
We will continue reading To Kill a Mockingbird. (Only a few chapters left.)
Introduction to your ESSAY assignment.
You will be writing an explanatory/expository essay.
The expository essay is a genre of essay that requires the student to investigate an idea, evaluate evidence, expound on the idea, and set forth an argument concerning that idea in a clear and concise manner.

TOPICS:
1. Explain and discuss the author’s descriptions of Maycomb. What is the town’s role in the novel?
2. Explain the key events and moments that lead to Scout maturing.
3. Explain the key events and moments that lead to Jam maturing.
4. Explain how Maycomb itself is also on trial.
5. Explain how Boo Radley and Tom Robinson are similar.
6. Explain 1 how one specific character is a “mockingbird” within the novel.
7. Explain how 3 different characters are “mockingbirds” within the novel.

Remember,
You are writing this essay as if I am “stupid” and I have never read the book.
You MUST have one quotation (properly cited) and one example per body paragraph.
You MUST have a tight thesis.

Your essay will be written on a Google Doc and must be shared with me EARLY so I can support you.
THEN, please upload your final essay to Google Classroom where it can be officially marked. Do not submit it to Google Classroom until you are done, done!
