  2.  Is there a difference between a freedom fighter and a terrorist?
  3.  How does the internet, and other new technology and communications tools, affect the ability of groups to organize violent or non-violent resistance?

Finish gathering information as it relates to the three questions.

  1. Are there any scenarios in which violence is justified and if so, where do you draw the line?
  2.  Is there a difference between a freedom fighter and a terrorist?
  3.  How does the internet, and other new technology and communications tools, affect the ability of groups to organize violent or non-violent resistance?

Click this LINK and try and type in goglobal…. hopefully it works. (If it doesn’t work. Leave it.)
Click HERE to try and access the information you need to for the VC. If you cannot access this refer to what is below.
If you can access it. You can follow the instructions on there. But; refer below as I have taken out some of your requirements because I feel like your pre knowledge is good enough! 🙂

Make sure you know the definition of the word GLOBALIZATION.
Define it in your recent post or where your other questions are being answered.
Then, respond to the following questions.

  1. What role, if any do Western powers/International community have in maintaining peace/promoting democracy in the Middle Eastern states?
    -War in Afghanistan
    -UN involvement
    -NATO involvement
  2. Has the Arab Spring been good or bad for the “everyday person” in the Middle East?
-you may need to ensure you know what the Arab Spring is
-do some additional research on the Arab Spring and be sure to search for information from both side.
Check out this interactive timeline on ARAB SPRING. (SERIOUSLY CHECK THIS OUT. IT IS SO COOL!)

Watch Gandhi: The Philosophy of Nonviolence , a short clip that provides one approach to defining the philosophy of non-violence

Next, discuss the following questions in small groups:
1. What is non-violence? Come up with a definition and write it down.

2. What are some examples of non-violent movements in history or in the present? Conduct an internet search to find examples. Do some research online about this movement and be prepared to share your findings.
After brainstorming for about 20-25 minutes share your group’s answers to the two questions with the rest of the class.
LASTLY,
1. Read Nonviolence: An Introduction . This is a very useful academic overview of the forms and goals of nonviolent action, including important foundational philosophies and movements.

Period 3: MS Final Projects
Student directions:
Please refer to the back bulletin board in the room.
Grab enough papers to cover all the people within your PSA.

Work on your NewCap videos. Get these finalized and on YOUTUBE. If you do not have a YOUTUBE account you can add it to mine tomorrow.
*When you are finished all PSA requirements and your NewCap video challenge you can read through the following document to plan for your Final Media Studies Project.
